Have you always wanted a beautiful smile? Orthodontic treatment may just be the answer you are looking for.
Orthodontics is the branch of dentistry that aims to improve the appearance and alignment of crooked, protruding or crowded teeth, and to correct problems with the bite of teeth.
If your teeth and gums are healthy, straightening and aligning your teeth along with closing any unwanted gaps with orthodontic treatment is certainly the best course of treatment. Dental Veneers and crowns can mask crooked and uneven teeth, but come at the cost of cutting down healthy tooth surfaces making them very destructive in nature. Orthodontic treatment can also be carried out at a fraction of the cost of crowns and Dental Veneers.
We have encountered many patients who have been embarrassed of their teeth since a very young age, and as a result had to cover their teeth and smile with their lips closed. After orthodontic treatment, they cannot believe they did not carry out this treatment sooner.
We have helped patients of ALL AGES enjoy straighter and healthier teeth with an improved bite.
Overcrowded or crooked teeth are more difficult to brush and floss, and improper cleaning can
lead to decay and gum problems. So orthodontics will not only improve your smile, but will also help you look after them better.
When we talk about braces, most people think about the “train-track” braces and are immediately put off by it. Some also think they are too old for braces. You will be happy to know that braces have evolved drastically over the years and you can have them at any age. Essentially there are three types of braces available:
1. Fixed Appliance
These are the “train-track” braces that everyone is used to seeing on teenage children. However, the modern metal braces are smaller, more discreet and comfortable than the traditional metal braces.
If you are concerned about the aesthetics, you can have ceramic fixed braces which are similar to metal braces but the brackets are made out of clear ceramic, making them barely noticeable. The wire also has a tooth coloured coating so it is discreet.
If you want to go the extra mile, you may choose to have sapphire fixed braces, where the brackets are made out of sapphire-like material which are “crystal clear”. Once again the wire can have a tooth coloured coating.
2. Clear Aligners
These are clear plastic aligners that you wear over your teeth and are virtually invisible. We construct a series of aligners for you to wear and change every two weeks until you have achieved the desired result. This treatment is slower than a fixed appliance but more discreet with the added advantage that you can take them out when you eat so there is no dietary restriction. Two popular brands of clear aligners are Invisalign and SmileTru.
3. Incognito Lingual Braces
These are fixed braces that are fixed behind your teeth so they cannot be seen i.e. fixed on the tongue side of the teeth rather than the lip side. This is by far the most discreet way to have orthodontic treatment.
