The National Smile Month 2020 Campaign, starts on Monday 18th May 2020 and finishes on Thursday 18th June 2020. This year, it is undoubtedly an unremarkable year, what with the Coronavirus Covid 19 Pandemic.
However, we’re very pleased that The National Smile Month 2020 Campaign hasn’t been postponed and that we’re all able to continue our participation in promoting the positive message of good Oral Health through all our digital channels.
The overall goal of The National Smile Month is to raise awareness of the charity campaign, by promoting the benefits of good Oral Health and the real value of a healthy smile. To support sharing this valuable message, please see below, 5 Tops Tips For Looking After Your Oral Health…
Brush Your Teeth Twice A Day…
Brushing your teeth twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, for about two minutes, is important for keeping your teeth, gums and mouth healthy. We’d recommend brushing your teeth last thing at night and on one other occasion during the day, ideally before breakfast.
Ensuring, that you brush your teeth twice daily will help to stop plaque building up and it will help to prevent long term issues such as Tooth Decay, Gum Disease and potentially Tooth Loss. For more Top Tips, please visit this page – How To Clean Your Teeth.
Floss Your Teeth Once A Day…
Using Interdental Brushes or Dental Floss, once a day, to clean in between your teeth will help to reduce plaque even more. Sometimes toothbrushes are unable to get in between all our teeth and flossing will help to remove any bits of food and built up plaque.
It’s important not to forget your teeth at the back of your mouth and to ensure that you clean around any Dental Crowns, Dental Bridges or Dental Implants. Your dentist or Dental Hygienist will be able to provide further guidance on cleaning between your teeth correctly at home.
Cut Down On Sugar In-Take…
Reducing the amount of sugar and how often you have sugar, will help to keep your mouth healthy and to prevent Gum Disease. Choosing the right foods and drinks on a daily basis will have a big impact on your overall Oral Health.
Sugar can cause damage to your teeth including Tooth Decay and Gum Disease, which can potentially lead to Tooth Loss. The Oral Health Foundation has more information on Diet & Oral Health, which includes FAQ’s on Sugar in food and drink.
Last year, our Principal Dentist Dr. Hetal Patel, visited a local Primary School in Milton Keynes to talk about Oral Hygiene, which covered the subject of sugar in-take. Find out more here – Aspects Dental Clinic Visits Portsfield Primary School In Newport Pagnell Milton Keynes.
Use A Fluoride Mouthwash Daily…
Alongside brushing your teeth twice daily, using a fluoride mouthwash can be a great supplement to supporting the reduction of plaque build up on your gums, on your teeth and in between your teeth. However, it shouldn’t be used as a replacement for brushing your teeth.
Using a fluoride mouthwash daily is a great way to support looking after your Oral Health including clearing away any left-over food debris in your mouth, killing bacteria, freshening your breath, preventing Tooth Decay and reducing the risk of Gum Disease.
Visit Your Dental Team Regularly…
Finally, visiting your Dental Team regularly is important for looking after your Oral Health. No matter how old you are, visiting both your Dentist and Dental Hygienist, as often as recommended will help to maintain your Oral Health and to spot any problems before they become serious.
As the saying goes ‘Prevention Is Better Than Cure’ and dentistry is no different. We’d much prefer to ensure our dental patients can prevent problems rather than suffering from serious dental issues such as Toothache or even worse Tooth Extraction.
We very much hope the above 5 Top Tips For Looking After Your Oral Health is useful to you during the Coronavirus Covid 19 Lockdown and we hope it won’t be much longer now until we can see all our lovely patients, once again and safely at the Aspects Dental Clinic in Milton Keynes.
